On Sunday, June 13th, at the
University of Indianapolis Tennis Center, The 12th Annual
Senior North-South Tennis All-Star Event was held.
The South was victorious over the North with a 17.5 - 11.5 win
to take back the Cup from the North. The tournament, sponsored by the ICGSA(Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association) featured
standout players from across the state in both singles and doubles.
Playing for the North Team,
coached by Sharon Rosenburgh (Carmel) and Bruce
Fleming (Mississinewa), were Claire Liles (Fort Wayne
Canterbury), Amanda Nguyen, Annika Carlson, and
Susie Chen (Carmel), Kelli Nelson and Meredith Erwin (Lebanon), Holly
Jarvis and Kristin Stowers (Madison
Grant), Cassie Fleming (Mississinewa), Carly
Plumlee and Kara Gilley (Plymouth), Natalie
Denney (Mt. Vernon-Fortville). Competing for the South's Squad, coached
by Rusty Hughes (Franklin Community) and Tony Bacon (Mount
Vernon) ,were Y-Lan Khuong
(Bloomington South), Jamie Claeys, Emily
Marcello, Katie Wyman, and Sarah Richert (Center
Grove), Christina Uphaus (Centerville), Lauran Paras (Bishop Chatard), Madeleine
Clark and Megan Graves (Franklin Community), Courtney Ramey and Olivia Pursell (Westfield), Claire Mattison
(Zionsville).
At the conclusion of the
match, an awards ceremony honored the players. Also, the ICGSA Tennis
Scholarship was awarded to Cassie Fleming of Mississinewa High
School. The ICGSA is proud to offer this award to encourage young women
to offer leadership beyond the tennis court.
The 2010 Coaches of The Year, for each District, were also honored at the North
South All-Star Cup. Honored Coaches were: Adam Baez - Highland HS
(District 1), Bill Mountford - South Bend St. Joseph
(District 2), Pat Slama - Zionsville (District 3),
Debby Burton - Center Grove (District 4), Rick Miller - Floyd Central (District
5). Debby Burton was also named the Indiana State Coach of the Year.
